International Intelligence &
Investigations
We are constantly reminded that there is no longer a
domestic
marketplace. We are now competing in a "global economy." That
may sound good for economists and financial experts, but
businessmen have to deal with people, new language, new political
realities, different ideology, different ethics, and different mores.
Continents and countries are not only visited by satellite communi-
cations and technology transfers, but by persons representing your
organization and the placement of intrinsic assets. Due diligence
across international borders is a special challenge requiring excellent
intelligence and the ability to corroborate suspicions real or imagined.
Whatever the business decision, take the same precaution you would
domestically. Know your business partner and the key staff you will be
working with. You know the customs in America, but will special circum-
stances in the way you conduct business overseas create serious
vulnerabilities to your operation? There are excellent resources available
to you. Do not presume that because you are working abroad that you
must take a higher risk. Mitigate your exposure by having the same data
you have come to expect domestically. It is available to you in most
circumstances. |
